  • Laying out components of the Knox Dining Table

We source the highest grade solid timber available. Once the timber in our studio we carefully select for grain and colour match. No piece is the same, but each piece is a cohesive whole.

  • Pen and rulers with paper cut outs — part of the design process

The Knox Dining Table is inspired by the simple forms of Shaker furniture. The singular aim was to enhance any space the table is in, not dominate it. Simple, unfussy, functional.

  • Using the Domino to cut mortises on the Knox Dining Table

The key attribute of this table is that it is knock-down. But once it’s together there’s no knocking this down. We spent a lot of time designing the joinery to make this possible.

Questions

Will it fit in my space?

Generally speaking 900mm of clear space around a dining table is a good thing to have. The Knox Dining Table comes in two standard sizes:

  • 4 seater (1200 x 900mm) / total footprint: 3000 x 2700mm
  • 6 seater (1800 x 1000mm) / total footprint: 3600 x 2800mm
  • 8 seater (2400 x 1100mm) / total footprint: 4200 x 2900mm
  • 10 seater (3000 x 1200mm) / total footprint: 4800 x 3000mm.

Will it fit through my door?

The table is flat-pack / knock-down. It should be easy to navigate narrow entrances.

Is it difficult to install?

Installation is straight-forward. It can be done by one person but it’s easier with two. We provide printed instructions and a video.

Can you customise it?

Custom finishes and sizing are possible on request.

Who made it?

All Hey, Porter pieces are designed and made in our Nelson studio. This ensures our stringent quality standards are met.

When will I get it?

Lead times are eight weeks.

Is the timber sustainably sourced?

Our timber is sourced in the United States where trees are responsibly managed and being planted quicker than they are being felled. Tree volume increased 130% between 1953 and 2017. We are working with our suppliers to gain more information about the provenance of the material.

What finish do you use?

We use a plant-based oil made by Livos. The main ingredients are:

  • linseed oil,
  • lemon oil,
  • beeswax,
  • turpentine,
  • orange oil and
  • rosemary oil.

We can supply the full list of ingredients for these low-VOC oils on request.

How do I clean it?

Spills are best dealt with immediately. A slightly damp cloth followed by a clean, dry cloth should be sufficient. We can provide more information on how to care for your piece.

Can I return it?

Returns are not possible on made to order items. If your order is not yet in production we may be able to do something. Please refer to our order process.

Can I see this in person?

The Knox Dining Table is made to order. If we have one in production and you're in Nelson you're welcome to visit us in our Nelson studio. It's possible someone near you has a table in their home. If so, they may be willing to show it to you. We also have finish and joint samples that can be viewed in Nelson. The best thing is to contact us to talk through the options.
