Mesa Bedside Shelf

Mesa Bedside Shelf

This wall-mounted shelf reduces the clutter and makes room for your slippers.

The bedroom should be a place of rest and free from clutter.

Bedside tables often do the opposite — they add clutter and encourage more of it with drawers.

No drawers here. And no legs.

This provides space for your favourite pair of slippers or your shoes for an early morning run.

The design encourages just a few nice things rather than all sorts of things. A book (or two), a light, a pen and notebook and a glass of water.

It s easily mounted onto most domestic walls including timber, brick and concrete.

The Mesa Bedside Shelf is sold individually.

Available in our three standard finishes: Natural Walnut, Bleached Maple, Natural White Oak.

Lead times are currently six weeks.

  • Planing White Oak to check for colour and grain

When we make a pair of shelves we make them from the same piece of timber. Each shelf has continuous grain and each pair of shelves is from the same tree. Details like this make a difference.

  • Mesa Bedside shelf concept ideas on tracing paper.

The brief began with a simple idea: make a wall-mounted bedside table. We generated dozens of ideas and then the penny dropped: take the form of the Mesa Coffee Table and apply it to this design.

  • Joint test on the Mesa Bedside Shelf

Made with the traditional finger joint, but scaled up, the machining has to be precise. Assembly is tricky and can only be done two at a time. But as they say, good things take time.

Questions

Is it difficult to install?

You will require a few tools: a pencil, a drill and a screwdriver. It will need to be attached to a stud for standard plaster walls. We provide printed instructions and a video on how to install it.

Can you customise it?

Custom finishes are available on request. Custom sizing is not available.

Who made it?

All Hey, Porter pieces are designed and made in our Nelson studio. This ensures our stringent quality standards are met.

When will I get it?

Lead times are currently six weeks.

Is the timber sustainably sourced?

Our timber is sourced in the United States where trees are responsibly managed and being planted quicker than they are being felled. Tree volume increased 130% between 1953 and 2017. We are working with our suppliers to gain more information about the provenance of the material.

What finish do you use?

We use a plant-based oil made by Livos. The main ingredients are:

  • linseed oil,
  • lemon oil,
  • beeswax,
  • turpentine,
  • orange oil, and
    rosemary oil.

We can supply the full list of ingredients for these low-VOC oils on request.

How do I clean it?

Spills are best dealt with immediately. A slightly damp cloth followed by a clean, dry cloth should be sufficient. We can provide more information on how to care for your piece.

Can I return it?

In some cases. Please refer to our returns policy.

Can I see this in person?

The Mesa Bedside Shelf is made to order. We sometimes have stock. If you're in Nelson you're welcome to visit us in our Nelson studio. It's possible someone near you has a shelf in their home. If so, they may be willing to show it to you. We also have finish and joint samples that can be viewed in Nelson. The best thing is to contact us to talk through the options.
